Look up the Steven Curtis Chapman song "Let us Pray" and you will find the same sentiment. Prayer always "works" because prayer is getting ourselves in line with God and His will not necessisarily trying to change God's will. The plan is perfect and the best prayer for me is "I want to be in line with your awesome plan so take over the part of me that you gave me control of and do what you want to do."Kyle Bridgmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09794403792411961360noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14829849.post-50750995642906963802008-11-22T05:31:00.000-06:002008-11-22T05:31:00.000-06:00I take from this the sound of great strength but y...I take from this the sound of great strength but yet a slight gentle spirit, or maybe humbleness, in these words and I love it!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14829849.post-27729838146703566362008-11-21T21:05:00.000-06:002008-11-21T21:05:00.000-06:00Matt...be sure to get some rest!Mel...what can I s...Matt...be sure to get some rest!

Mel...what can I say? I know we talked about it after you came home, but I love reading your processing of the event. I'm like you...I feel I'm standing in the middle of the two. I have that deep longing to make a difference...to live life fully and deeply...to laugh and laugh loudly...to love strongly and without reserve. I unfortunately find myself becoming more reserved and cautious in my thinking. There are people who will move past the election before tomorrow morning, but the people I've been surrounded by know the issues, understand the issues, and care about the issues. And if things don't turn out the way they want tonight, they will not be alright with it tomorrow, or the day after, or a month after that, or two months after that.

we have campaigned and canvassed and traveled, and the long road is nearing a fork. I voted at 7:30 this morning, took an exam, and went back to the polls to volunteer. after tomorrow, when someone brings something up with which I don't agree, I will state my opinion in the hopes that they will consider a new side, because I will do the same.

If you give the world a little more credit, then I will too. (I did agree with your post, so you know. the world doesn't care enough come nov. 5) Lead by example and continue to care about the issues for which you voted. This is an area that I have been struggling with in my life for quite some time now.

I am usually quick to the fight (I love a good battle!) but once the fight is over I tend to lose interest. Do women struggle with this as well?

I know that guys typically like the quest...to conquer. I think that's why marriages sometimes fail...guys feel like there is nothing left to conquer. I know what I found helpful when I was in a crisis, but I've found that not everyone is the same. What is comforting for some, is uncomfortable for others. For those of us who have been on both sides of this, it leaves us scratching our heads wondering what we should do for someone else. We want to help, but often don't know how. People just need to be real and say something like "Man, I know you're going through such a difficult time. How can I help?" And the one in crisis needs to be honest and say "Ok, here's what I really need you to do...." And don't be afraid to be honest.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14829849.post-55585714733319071672008-10-30T12:43:00.000-05:002008-10-30T12:43:00.000-05:00Good discussion here...I love it! Anonymous (1) - ...Good discussion here...I love it!

Anonymous (1) - I agree that not everyone who says they will be praying for you cops out. There are many faithful prayer "warriors" out there that really mean what they say. Kudos to them. I was simply relating the typical "religious" trap that we probably all fall into at times.

Anonymous (2) - I also agree with you that sometimes just being there for a person WITHOUT words can sometimes be the best thing. Knowing you care is a great start. Faith without action is dead, right?

Anonymous (3) - Praying is definitely not useless! I have seen prayer work in my life (and others) MANY times and it is powerful. What a great way to communicate with God! For me, it's a conversation. I'm reading through Psalms right now and trying to read with the perspective of those folks conversing with God. It has shed a different light on those passages to be sure.

Let's keep the discussion going!
